Apache Handlers

The Apache.org web site defines a handler as "an internal Apache representation of the action to be performed when a file is called." Your server files can have implicit handlers, based on the file type. Instead of letting a file be served by the server, certain file types can be "handled" separately. The Web Hosting Control Panel lets you set Apache handlers as System Defined Handlers such as .cgi .pl or .shtml or define your own Apache handlers using the User Defined Handlers tool in the Web Hosting Control Panel.
